Leadership

As leaders, we all serve Jesus Christ, the founder and perfecter of our faith

Kevin Bendemire - Board Chair

Kevin is a senior tax attorney at Applied Materials, Inc.  He holds a B.S., summa cum laude, in Business Administration and a minor in Economics from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and a J.D., cum laude, from U.C. Hastings College of the Law.  Kevin began his legal career at Baker McKenzie LLP and has worked in a business or legal capacity at a number of multinational corporations, including, Oracle Corporation, Intuit, Inc., and Facebook, Inc.  Kevin has advised and/or served on the board of several nonprofits assisting underserved individuals both locally and abroad.

Ed McDonald - Board Member, Board Treasurer

Ed is one of the rare Abraham Lincoln-like, true-attorney who practices general law.  As part of the leadership of Calvary Church, he originally came to SVCLA to vet us, but fell in love with the wonderful people in the team and God’s vision for the power of the gospel and justice and has stayed since.

Ellen Szeto - Treasurer

As a Christian and an attorney with a background in social work, Ellen is excited about combining her faith, professional abilities, and desire to assist those who are disadvantaged in our society through volunteering with SVCLA. She enjoys traveling (almost anywhere), spending time with her husband and dog, doing outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing with friends, and gardening (not weeding).

Leslie Donahue - Board Secretary, Paralegal Volunteer

Leslie has 30+ years' experience in civil litigation including Family Law, Estates & Trusts, and land use. She's been involved in nonprofit leadership for 11 years with the California Alliance of Paralegal Associations statewide and locally.

Josephine Jihai Park - President, Board Member

Saved by Jesus' great love, Jo founded SVCLA out of gratitude for her Savior and in obedience to His command to "loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke" (Isaiah 58.6). She practices family law and prior to that worked in workers' compensation defense. She loves to play the trumpet and the piano at her church.
